How to Minimize the Impact of the VMware Acquisition on Your Business

Broadcom’s purchase of VMware is changing the publisher landscape as they are changing the terms of their contracts and support agreements. Change, especially mergers and consolidations, is unnerving for customers who are trying to understand what it means for their business operations.

Let’s look at the ramifications of the VMware acquisition and what customers can do to minimize its impact on their organization.

 Price Hikes

VMware customers should be concerned about changes in pricing, support and product plans. Broadcom has a reputation for buying companies, drastically cutting their internal costs and then focusing only on large, high-profit customers. It’s not an unwarranted fear that prices will rise dramatically for VMware products, impacting any organization’s bottom line. The bigger concern is for smaller businesses that will find it extremely difficult to afford what they’ve always had.

Production Innovation Loss

Broadcom has already made changes, and their focus is on profit generation, not innovation. VMware’s reputation for researching, innovating and delivering quality products is coming into question. Broadcom is known to care more about profits than research or customer service, so there is a clash of cultures about to happen. Customers fear there could be less focus on improving the software or helping users which will hurt the quality and innovation of VMware’s tools.

 Technology Roadmap Challenges

VMware plays an important role in managing cloud systems for many companies. It helps connect private data centers with public cloud services. If Broadcom changes VMware’s strategies, companies might lose flexibility or face challenges in planning their technology roadmap for the future. This makes it harder to trust how VMware’s tools will work in the long run, and if a customer should seek better alternatives.

Remend helps businesses identify and navigate through software publisher changes. As an independent software advisor, we ensure that you acquire the right technologies for your organization at the best price. Our advice focuses on getting customers the best return on their investment, not boosting software publishers’ bottom lines. Since we’re not tied to any publishers, we become a valuable, impartial partner during uncertain times.
